Color Changing Vanity

Hydrangeas are fascinating flowers which are often remembered because they have been a part of many individual's childhoods. They are unique and beautiful, and they change colors in a dramatic way. A hydrangeas bouquet is a wonderful oasis of colors in a tired world.
These flowers are originally from the North of America, but they could also be found in the East. In their native land, the hydrangeas were often used for their medicinal benefits, as they acted perfectly as diuretics or detoxifiers. Even sprains and burns could be helped with their bark. Moreover, there is an old saying, which tells that the flowers have magical powers. It states that if a witch put a curse on an individual, only the hydrangea could break it. In Greek, the name can be translated to "water barrel", which is a direct reference to the need of the plant for lots of water.
Nevertheless, the actual meaning of the flower is under constant debate. For many, they represent vanity, because their often perfect, round shape, formed by many gorgeous flowers is thought to say that beauty is all that matters. For others, they merely symbolize gratefulness for the understanding of the one receiving them. Then, there's the final meaning, which is a demonstration of sincerity. It is very easy for one to get lost in these possible symbols, so when giving a hydrangeas bouquet, make sure to specify which meaning the flowers stand for.
When it comes to changing the color of the hydrangeas, it is a little harder to make them go from blue to pink. However, it is quite easy to do so from pink to blue. If in soil, aluminum must be added so that the flowers will change their color from pink to blue. It is highly recommended that one tablespoon be added to a gallon of water to plants which are over 2 years old. In order for the aluminium itself to reach the plant, the pH of the soil need to come down somewhere between 5.2 and 5.5. For this, you can add peels of fruit and vegetables or even coffee grounds.
Historically, hydrangeas have been cultivated in Europe after American species came to England around the year 1730. Nonetheless, the species native to Japan had been known to local gardeners for centuries before that. Because of their beauty, these flowers were raised to new seedlings, which resulted in an amazing range of colors.
If you wish to create the perfect hydrangeas bouquet, you have to ensure that the leaves are taken away, because they will decompose in water, creating an unpleasant effect. Cut the bottoms off in a diagonal direction, to increase absorption area, and do so under water, to avoid formation of air bubbles in the stems. Keep in mind that the flowers will only last about a week, so enjoy them while you still can! Also, remember that they are very sensitive to the surrounding factors, so it is very important that there is no cold or hot air blowing directly on them.
