Growing Tomatoes In Greenhouses

When choosing the option of growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, you will find that the inside environment, if properly used and assembled, can make for a very hospitable environment for growing tomatoes. So, considering a few easy steps, and taking the time to grow the tomatoes in the following manner, is going to ensure you get the ideal results when growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, and to ensure you get the desired levels of growth you are hoping for.
For starters, you have to start with a good soil mix. If you choose a standard potting mix, with about 10 % worm castings added in, you will get great results. If needed, you can adjust the Ph levels of the potting mix by adding lime juice, which will help in preventing rotting tomatoes from blossoming when you grow them. Once properly adjusted (as per the directions on the potting mix), you can start the growth.
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, the next thing to do is start the seeds. Using a regular nursery tray, you will fill it with soil, and add in the seeds. In order to ensure they do not die, during the first few days you can cover the seeds. After about 10 days, you can remove any covers, in order for the seeds to start popping up. You will keep these sprouts under a fluorescent light (about 4 to 6 inches away); once they start growing, you can move the plants to their own containers.
You will then keep the tomatoes under fluorescent lights for between 18 to 24 hours each day. You can start feeding them Maxsea 16-16-16, to help aid in the growth process during this phase. To get ideal growth, temperatures should be anywhere from 70 to 75 degrees, during the day, and 65 to 67 degrees at night. After 6 weeks to two months, your plants should start growing the fruit.
You should also force flower your plants. When beginning the process, you should move the plants to a 3 gallon container. During the first two weeks, you can feed the plants 10-52-70 fertilizer. After this period, you will add 16-16-16 fertilizer, in order to ensure the optimal growth, and in order to get the top results.
Lastly, when growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, you need to pollinate them every day, until it is warm and humid outside, so that you can transport them to an outdoor area if you so choose. Many people pollinate their tomatoes by hand, by gently shaking the plants to distribute the pollen. Another option is to use an electric toothbrush to vibrate the flowers.
Regardless of what tomatoes you are growing, what kind of results you are hoping to attain, or how long you are growing the tomatoes for, keeping these things in mind, and taking the time to follow the steps, will make for the ideal growth. Due to the inviting environment, lighting, and temperature, when you choose the option of growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, you are going to get quick results, and if you do these things each day, see the growth you are hoping for.
