Choosing the Best Bonsai Tree

Choosing the best bonsai tree is simple. Pick a bonsai based on the amount of experience you have in growing bonsais. If you are a beginner or you are buying as a gift, you should choose a care free bonsai tree at a reasonable price. Although a lot of indoor bonsai trees say "Carefree" you still have to water daily and maintain growth. Move onto more difficult bonsais as your experience grows.
When I picked my first bonsai I didn't read much about growing bonsais. There are a few things to take in mind when choosing your first bonsai tree. Starting off with a care free bonsai would be ideal, considering they are a little harder to kill. I would also start off with a couple tools to get use to training and pruning trees and plants. When you get some techniques down then you should move onto the bonsai trees that take a little more patience.
You also want to think about your climate zone when picking your bonsai. If you live in the south you should have little or no freezing. If that is the case a lot of indoor trees could do great outdoors year round. Just make sure you read what temperatures the tree can handle before bringing them inside. Just because you don't live in a climate zone that is warm year round does not mean that you cannot have a tropical bonsai tree. If you can get a high lit area ( window sill, sky light, or even a grow light) you should be confident that you can care for your bonsai. Although you can use a bonsai grow light to give your bonsai trees some light, I would still suggest putting them in a well-lit area from time to time. There is nothing like some good sunshine.
Another good choice when picking a bonsai tree is going for the outdoor bonsais. These trees need a dormant period in the winter. Some of the outdoor bonsais lose their foliage in the winter, as do the actual tree, while others are evergreens. When choosing an outdoor bonsai tree, once again you always want to think about the experience level. If you have little or no experience you want to start off with a bonsai that is easy to care for.
One of the most important features to look for when choosing a bonsai is the price of the tree. If you cannot fit it in your budget then do not buy it. There are a lot of affordable bonsais, not all are 20 years old and five hundred dollars. When shopping for bonsais search, "bonsais for sale" or "free shipping on bonsais", that always seems to keep the price in anyone's budget.
