How to Sprout Mung Beans - Learn the Secrets of the Chinese

If you envy the Chinese for their delectable dishes, then you should learn the technique on how to sprout mung beans. Mung bean sprouts are widely used in different Chinese dishes. They use the vegetable to add flavor to the vegetable dishes, noodles, salads and even sandwiches. Every sprout of mung bean is packed with vitamins and minerals. It is a good source of vitamins B and C, potassium, magnesium, protein and calcium. So if you want an ingredient that has all the essential nutrients that your body needs, the mung bean is the answer.
The technique on how to sprout mung beans is very easy. If you want a regular supply of the beans, here are the things that you must do.
  1. Pick the organically grown seeds and wash them thoroughly before soaking. This will ensure that you remove all the dirt from them. While washing, pay attention to the beans that float in the water. Remove them because for sure they will not sprout.
  2. Since the seeds will double or triple in size while doing the steps on how to sprout mung seeds, you should only soak seeds enough for your 2 week's needs. Anyway, in case you will need more sprouts, you can easily make another batch.
  3. Soak the previously washed mung beans in a sprouting container containing clean water. Allow them in this set up overnight.
  4. Wash and rinse them the following morning. By this time, you will see that the beans begin to swell.
  5. Soak again for another 8 to 12 hours and repeat steps 4 and 5 until you see the stem coming out. This usually takes about 2-3 days to complete.
  6. On the third day, stop the steps on how to sprout seeds. Generally, the length of the sprouted beans is good for your dishes. If you want them to grow longer, proceed up to the fourth day.
  7. Finish the task by washing them thoroughly. You can now cook the vegetable to enjoy your favorite meal.
  8. If you have left over, place them in a covered jar inside your refrigerator. They can remain fresh for the next 2 to 4 weeks. But to ensure your safety, check them before using the beans. If you notice a different smell, do not hesitate to discard them.
Sautéed Vegetable with Sprouted Mung Beans
Now that you are done with the steps on how to sprout mung beans, your next project is to find dishes where you can enjoy them. Remember, you can eat them raw or cooked. If you want them raw, they taste good if you add them to a hot noodle soup just like how Asians enjoy them. If you wish to cook them, the sautéed vegetable is excellent.
You will need:
String beans, cut into small pieces
Carrots
Cabbage
Sprouted mung beans
Chicken or tofu slices
  • In a skillet, sauté onion and crushed garlic.
  • Add the chicken or tofu and let it cook for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add all the vegetables and cook for a few more minutes.
